**ESPANOLA, ON** – A significant drug seizure and impaired driving arrest took place following a traffic complaint on Highway 17 near Nairn Centre on November 9, 2024.

At approximately 7:00 p.m., the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle—a pickup truck—on Highway 17. Officers subsequently located the vehicle on Jacklin Road in Espanola and conducted a traffic stop. During the interaction, it was determined that the driver had been consuming alcohol, prompting further investigation. The driver was transported to the McKerrow Detachment for additional testing.
Upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered over 660 grams of suspected cocaine, valued at an estimated $66,000, as well as three suspected oxycodone pills, valued at approximately $45.
As a result, the driver, **Ashley JACKO-METANSININE**, a 30-year-old resident of Wikwemikong, was arrested and charged with multiple offences, including:
- Operation while impaired – drugs
- Possession of a Schedule I substance (opioid, other than heroin)
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
- Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
- Drive motor vehicle with liquor readily available
- Drive motor vehicle without two license plates displayed
- Drive motor vehicle without a valid permit
- Operate a motor vehicle without insurance
JACKO-METANSININE appeared in Sudbury’s Ontario Court of Justice on November 10, 2024, and was remanded into custody.
