As winter approaches, the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police are reminding drivers to prepare their vehicles for winter weather conditions.
A key factor in winter road safety is proper tire selection. "All-season tires are not designed for snow, ice, or cold temperatures," said OPP in a recent release. "Winter tires, on the other hand, offer significantly better traction in these conditions."
While all-wheel drive can improve acceleration, it does not enhance braking or handling in winter weather. Drivers are urged to reduce speed and adjust their driving to the road conditions.
The OPP emphasizes that excessive speed is the leading cause of winter-related collisions. By driving cautiously and equipping vehicles with appropriate tires, drivers can significantly reduce the risk of accidents and ensure a safer winter.
